"In 1938, the State of Ohio set the third Friday of every October as Ohio Poetry Day. This was the first poetry day established by a state government in the United States. Tessa Sweazy Webb spent thirteen months lobbying the Ohio General Assembly to create Ohio Poetry Day. She argued, 'For each living reader a living poet, for each living poet a living reader.' Ohio Poetry Day Virtual Celebration - October 3rd 2020

Our friends at the Ohio Poetry Association will be sponsoring a significant part of this year’s Ohio Poetry Day (OPD) celebration to honor this year’s Ohio Poet of the Year, Kari Gunter-Seymour, and the OPD contest winners.

Join the celebration during a virtual reading on Zoom. The afternoon kicks off with a reading by Kari Gunter-Seymour, who will then be interviewed by OPA President Chuck Salmons. After a short break, the OPD contest winners will be invited to read their winning poems.

This event is free and open to the public, but space is limited. Registration is available via Eventbrite.
