"In 1938, the State of Ohio set the third Friday of every October as Ohio Poetry Day. This was the first poetry day established by a state government in the United States. Tessa Sweazy Webb spent thirteen months lobbying the Ohio General Assembly to create Ohio Poetry Day. She argued, 'For each living reader a living poet, for each living poet a living reader.' After Ohio approved Webb's idea, other states adopted a day dedicated to poetry as well." - Quotation from Ohio History Central

Greetings, Poets from Ohio and beyond!
ReplyDeleteHow kind of John Burroughs to post the Ohio Poetry Day contest brochure to the Ohio Poetry Association page! Thanks, John!
I might make a grateful addition to contest 3. Evelyn Barker Award. This important memorial contest is offered by her husband of 46 years, Lloyd E. Barker as well as her daughter Janice Barker-McLaughlin.
I look forward to many fine submissions to all 27 contests this year!
Best regards,
Bill Reyer

Greetings from Kentucky!
ReplyDeleteI wondered which poems are published in the Best of . . . books. I had a poem win an Honorable Mention last year, and if by chance it is in the book, I'd like to purchase a copy!
Thanks -
